Thank you, Captain, for the gifts. We will definitely have to enjoy those in Santorini. *smooches*

OOC: Have to work today, running out to catch train, on later...
I apologize to everyone for being so scarce. Having moved into a new house, and having sick kidlets and roomies, I've been going nutso.

I know that for many people, this is a rough year, and money is tight. But I want to reach out to everyone who might see this, friend or not, and ask you to consider doing a Christmas miracle for those who are without a voice to ask.

This year, because of the recession, millions of dogs, cats, bunnies and other pets have been abandoned or surrendered by families who cannot keep them. Many were left behind in empty, forclosed homes, starving.

I know that many people are out of work, and money is tight. But there are so many things that YOU can do, to help a homeless pet. So, if you are reading this, please PLEASE see if you can help, in one of these ways, and then pass this information forward to your networks of friends, so that they might do the same. I don't care if you are a friend, RP partner, someone I don't know or if you even can't stand me. This is about something really important, so please, please spread the word about how you can help.

1. Animal shelters across the nation are DESPERATE for supplies. You'd be shocked at what they can use, that you might have lying around. Cardboard boxes, used for beds or litter trays, are really needed. Especially helpful are the top lids like on bulk paper ream boxes, that many companies just trash. Those are perfect for kitty litter! Soft, used towels, cloth diapers, pillows, comforters, blankets and sheets can be donated, so the animals don't have to sleep on cold concrete or metal wire. If you get new towels, won't you donate the old ones?

2. Cat and dog food, litter, toys, collars, shampoo, etc...are very needed. Hay bales, feed for small animals and other things are appreciated, too! If you have a coupon, or get something free, could you donate it? Money is always helpful, too. Even a dollar can add up, and give an animal a bit of food and warmth, so they can find a new home.

3. Time. Can you volunteer? Cleaning, walking, hugging and cuddling an animal can be a lot of love for you, and them.

4. Please don't buy pets from puppy or kitten mills. Adopt! There are beautiful pets, of every breed, who need your love and a good home. Also, don't give a living creature as a gift unless you are certain that the recipient really wants one and can provide care for it.

Also...

1. Many seniors live on fixed incomes, and some have no families. Can you donate a pair of warm pajamas, or a blanket, some food? How about some DVD's that you don't watch? Toiletries, canned meats, utility payments, lap blankets...I bet there's a million things you could donate to a senior in a nursing home, or to disabled people in care facilities. There are disabled adults, YOUR AGE, who are stuck in nursing homes, all alone, who would love to listen to your old CD's, or watch movies, or have a new pair of jammies. Just one act of kindness can brighten their lives and show them that they are not forgotten, and you will feel SO GOOD!

2. Homelessness is on the rise, and more kids than ever are living on the streets. Used or new backpacks and tote bags can be donated to shelters and group homes. Many foster kids have to carry their things in grocery or garbage bags, bouncing from one foster home to the next. A sturdy backpack or small suitcase gives them so much joy and pride. If you have free or sample toiletries, or socks, gloves, etc? Those are needed, too.

3. Again, your time is always something that makes a huge difference. Volunteering at shelters, soup kitchens, senior centers and community kids programs give you and the people you help a gift that keeps on giving.

Happy and blessed holidays to everyone. Be safe, be warm, be loved and remember that every little thing you can give will make a difference.
